Steven’s students performed various songs as part of his 10th year Holiday Sharing at the Neighborhood Playhouse. To put everyone in the holiday spirit, the songs included: We Need A Little Christmas paired with a scene from As you Like it; Winter Wonderland combined with The Twelve Days of Christmas; What I did For Love tagged with Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas; Just The Way You Are (Bruno Mars) coupled with Stand By Me (Lieber and Stoller) and a tag of Silent Night (The first “mash up” at the Playhouse. I was honored to music direct Christine Pedi at the Cab Calloway Lifetime Achievement Awards at Westchester Broadway Theatre tonight. We performed her wonderful parody of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” and “Music That Makes Me Dance All Night,” a combo of two songs that Ms. Pedi performed in musicals (Funny Girl & My Fair Lady) with honoree Jeff Scott. Steven provided incidental and underscoring to the honorees speeches. Steven’s good friends Chloe and Phil Sasson were some of the honorees.

Ratliff. Working with four fantastic musicians from Denver, CO the boys performed classic songs like “Oh What A Night,” and “Let’s Hang on.”

My friend and colleague Nancy Hillman is doing a new revue in August in Yelm WA with her group STAGESTRUCK PLAYERS called “Listen To Me.” (Go to multimedia section to hear the kids of the Neighborhood Playhouse sing it) The title song was written by Steven Silverstein & David Madore for the Neighborhood Playhouse Juniors School. The show will be presented on August 26, 27, 28 and 29. Steven’s song “Could I Ever Be The One,” (John Treacy Egan’s version of the song is also in the multimedia section of my website) is scheduled to be featured in the revue.
The show is about a group of ambitious and diverse young people who compete to win first prize in the local literary contest.. by presenting original performance pieces on the subject of the evolution of communication through the ages. They are daunted, urged on critiqued and inspired by a motley group of local judges, and their own personal internal grudges. No one , not even the cast, knows who the winner will be! Steven’s song Capture A Queen (lyrics by Blake Hackler) was included in a reading of a new musical Ten Reasons I Won’t Go Home With You written by Kelly Nichols on April 6 at Space 1 on White Street. The cast included Bridget Barnet Dunn, Benjamin Holmes, Edward Campbell, Ryan Stadler, Mark Dunn and Kelly Nichols with Liz Gerbi on the piano. The Salvation Army is launching its $100 million Stand Together fundraising campaign in the middle of Times Square at noon next Friday, Nov. 20. WOR will be live broadcasting the event, Steven played piano for Lucy Shropshire, fresh from her success at Feinsteins. John Egan just got back from his Silver Seas Cruise. Brandon Cutrell said it was fabulous! They performed at Monte Carlo, Portofino, LIvomo, Saint-Tropez, Palma de Majorca, Valencia and Barcelona. John sang Steven’s arrangements of Her Voice (LIttle Mermaid), Somewhere only We Know, The Producers Medley as well as the duet On The Street Where you Live/Almost like Being in Love (from John’s cd Count the Stars). The charts were arranged by Steven, Joe Brady, Kerry Meads and Paul Ivory and music direction was by Mark Hartman.

Steven is slated to play for Barrow Group’s Musical Theater Class starting on Monday April 13th from 11-2 pm. The 8 week course helps singers tell the story of a song more effectively. Tonight marks the 19th year! that Steven has been the assistant music director of the Inner Circle Show. (Actually he took off one year when he was the assistant music director of “The Green Heart” at Manhattan Theater Club.!) Music director Kathy Beaver and choreographer Tony Parisi (of “Camp Broadway”) help create arrangements and dances for well known pop songs and a few theater ditties!. These songs contain parody lyrics written by reporters and TV news personalities like Gabe Pressman, Melissa Russo, Jim Ryan and Marvin Scott. They always provide for great and unique entertainment. Steven served at music director for John Treacy Egan’s third concert to promote COUNT THE STARS, his premiere CD.. Last night, John performed at Westchester Community College, his alma mater, for Cabaret for A Cause. Steven was joined again by Joe Brady on drums and Paul Ivory on Bass. Again John performed a variety of songs – some from the CD Count the Stars as well as some new material.

Megan Lawrence, currently in HAIR, and most recently in DAMN YANKEES (at City Center) and last year in PAJAMA GAME (with Harry Connick Jr.) is going to be Adelaide in The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s production of Guys And Dolls. Steven recorded with Megan scenes as well as the famous Adelaides Lament at his studio and sent mp3’s as her audition to land the part. Brava Megan!

Steven just came back from Birdland where he played for his good friend John Treacy Egan. Steven and John’s friend, Christine Pedi was the host. Steven had the pleasure of working with Broadway Today last night. He performed with Craig Shulman, founder as well as Tamra Hayden, Colleen Hawks, Becky Baxter-Foard and Phil Hernandez with Brian Hamm on Bass and Gary Seligson on Drums. They performed Broadway standards like “Music of the Night,” from Phantom and “The Impossible Dream,” from Man of La Mancha. Steven was the emcee and music director at the Lawrence Hall in LI.

Steven had the pleasure of playing piano (Roland JV 90) for his good friend Kathy Fitzgerald last night at the Midtown West’s 2000 Live Auction Party. Midtown West is Kathy’s daughter’s (Hope) school on W. 48th Street. The event was held at the Phonak Gallery 413-415 14th St. Kathy and Steven performed Cabaret, That Old Black Magic (Kathy’s own arrangement), Sunday, Monday or Always, The World Goes Round and Ring Them Bells. Kathy will be featured the upcoming musical version of Dolly Parton’s hit movie Nine To Five.

Last night, Steven had the privilege of playing for John Treacy Egan for the St. Georges Society at the National Arts Club on Gramery Park South. John sang selections from his CD including his infamous Producers Medley. The MC for the event was legendary Jim Dale (“Barnum,” “Candide”, “3 Penny Opera”), who shared some wonderful anecdotes and funny stories. Pictures were taken by John Shannon remember of the Society. Last minute! Steven was fortunate enough to play piano for John Treacy Egan at The Little Mermaid benefit at Westbank Theater on 42nd street. John performed UNREQUITED LOVERS MARCH from his Cd COUNT THE STARS.
Jordan Hamessley will be performing an original tune of Steven’s with lyrics by Richard Mancini, Nancy Barrett, Steven Silverstein & Madelyn Barbero. The song is called ONCE AGAIN. It will part of the grand reopening of the SALON at 59 w. 44th Street.

This year is especially exciting with the major changes in the political arena this week — e.g. GOVERNOR SPITZER. Steven’s friends Pam Brown and Greg Tully were at the dress rehearsal. Steven has been the assistant music director of the Inner Circle since 1990.

On February 17, Steven played piano for AMDA Colleague Robert Vest at the 9th Avenue Bistro (48th & 9th), for an hour piano bar show. Students from AMDA sang and Robert wowed the group with his interesting arrangement of Bette Midler’s, THE ROSE.

Sleep With Me is a black comedy with music set in Hollywood in 1938, the story of a teen age girl�s sexual awakening in the predatory world of 1930�s Hollywood, with songs ripped out of Shirley Temple�s movies and surgically crafted into the corrupt adult environment of the movies.

The show was produced at The Westchester Broaday Theater in 1991 with book by Bob Fitzsimmons and Music by Steven & Lyrics by Barbara Campbell. The current production is being produced by the Actors Conservatory Theater and Directed by Armand Paganelli with Steven P. Riedel as Santa Claus (from Westchester Community College). Steven served as sub rehearsal pianist for the Time Warner Singers last night for their annual concert on December 19th. The conductor was Beth Knauer and rehearsal pianist was David Strickland. The arrangements and the singers are top notch. Songs rehearsed included a Manhattan Transfer arrangement of The Christmas Song.

Steven is very proud to announce that Gretchen Reinhagen will be performing arrangements of How HIgh the Moon/Anything goes and Just in Time (from her recently performed “Back to Basics”) when she heads out to her family’s home town of Indio, CA for a very special performance of “Back to Basics” on December 22nd @ the Indio Performing Arts Center. Musical Director for this special event will be long-time Reinhagen family friend and musical collaborator John Salerno. This show is a fundraiser for the Coachella Valley High School’s Visual and Performing Arts Academy. Steven will be appearing on an upcoming episode of GOSSIP GIRL – sometime after Thanksgiving. In the episode, he plays a “pianist!” at a rehearsal for a debutant ball. Included in the episode as the Mistress of Ceremonies is Broadway performer Beth Fowler (the original Mrs. Potts in Beauty & The Beast.) The episode #109 was filmed at 80 Fifth Avenue on the Penthouse. The music heard in the scene is called The Secret by The Pierces. The episode, entitled, “Hi, Society” is scheduled to air on 11/28.

Also scheduled to perform include Robert Hager (Spring Awakening) and Craig Schulman (Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables). Christine is scheduled to perform her renditions of “I’m Not Going,” “I Dreamed A Dream,” and “When You’re Good To Mama.”

Steven Silverstein played piano again on the Joey Reynolds show (WOR 710 AM) live on 9/4/07 at 1 AM with guest performer Neva Small. Steven is currently subbing on Neva’s show “Not Just An Ingenue” at the Actors Temple. On Joey Reynold’s show, Neva sang Amanda McBrooms’s song Portrait. In addition, Neva and Steven created a parody for Joey Reynolds, to the tune of Tradition.

On June 2nd, Steven will be music director for John Treacy Egan solo cabaret act with special guest Renee Feder (soon to be seen in the Broadway musical Young Frankenstein). John will be in the new Disney musical The Little Mermaid opening on Broadway in the Fall of 2007. Steven created the arrangements with fellow musicians Kerry Meads and Paul Ivory. John & Renee are performing How’d You Like To Love Me and The Prayer together. John will be opening the show with Orange Colored Sky. It will be at the Westchester Country Club.

Steven just conducted a second seminar of his FEARLESS AUDITION at Pima Community College. It took place in the recital hall of the West Campus in Tuscon Arizona on February 24 from 10-3:30. There were twelve participants. One of Pima�s students from last year is in the last four contestants on the Reality Grease show.

Steven is the music director of a new staged reading of “Sleep With Me,” a play with music by Jim Shankman. It is on Friday January 26th at 8 pm. For reservations, call: 212-645-1525. The cast includes Steve Friedman, Brian McFadden, Maura Molloy and Jenny Neale. It is a black comedy that takes place in Hollywood in 1938 when Louis B. Mayer of MGM is desperately trying to get Shirley Temple to play Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.
